The weekend before Thanksgiving I traveled to Burlington, Vermont with my good friend Isaac. We were going there for a few different reasons. One reason was to get out, and go do something, because idling around is sometimes boring, and just going out somewhere and doing something that you've never done before is awesome. I've been to Burlington before, and to UVM (where we were going), but every time it's a unique interesting experience, so it is/was definitely worth going some more. Another reason we were going was to visit my good friend Ben, who goes to school at UVM (which is a fantastic school by the way, especially if you wouldn't mind a big school). Ben, Isaac and I have been friends since middle school, and we all still keep in touch on a regular basis. The final reason we were going, was to see a band play in Burlington. The band is called Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, who are a mixture of a band in terms of genre, but I think a lot of people would enjoy them. The first night in Vermont was fun, we walked around the UVM campus, and met some of the people that lived on my friends floor. The second day (Saturday) was even better, we explored more, and walked around in the Centennial Woods they have at UVM, which is a pretty cool area on the outskirts of the campus. A few fraternities there got busted that night, which we got a chance to witness as we were out and about walking the streets, but nothing big happened, just all the students lef the places in a hurry haha. Sunday night was the best night there though, because of the show. Starting around 8-9, the show had opening bands Local Natives and Fools Gold, who were both really good bands, here is a video of one of Fools Golds songs: And here is a video of the band Local Natives who also opened. Their ability to harmonize was absolutely outstanding. They reminded me a lot of Fleet Foxes, which is more well known band, and is outstanding as well. Then finally Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros played, which in my opinion was quite possibly one of the best shows of my life (the only one that can compare to this was maybe Ratatat last year). All of the songs they played were even better live than they are recorded, even more so because the energy in the room and the environment was perfect. All of the people there were really into everything that was going on, and the way the band was friendly, and even had the previous bands play instruments with their songs was awesome. members of Local Natives and Fools Gold would just randomly come out together and start playing songs with Edward Sharpe, and they were all laughing, dancing around, and into it. The drummer from Fools Gold wore tribal paint and pounded on large drums, meanwhile other instrument players were dancing around, singing, chanting, it was all incredible. Alex Ebert who is the main vocalist was all over, and very interactive with the crowd, you could tell it he loved being there with all the crowd members as much as they loved being with him and the band. Here are some videos of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. None were taken at that specific show, but these shows are simular, and in my opinion, our show was even better. |
