10-Orionids Meteor Shower

Well incase you all didn't mark your astrological calenders, this week was the peak of the Orionids Meteor shower that occurs every year around this time. The peak was on the nights of the 20th and the 21st, between 11pm-4am. I had a project due this week on an event, in my photo-video documentation class, so as my event I chose the meteor shower (which meant I had to go out and take 10 pics of the meteor shower).

I was planning on going out late and seeing the meteor shower anyways, since seeing things like this is always awesome. My friends and I decided to go down to Biddeford Pool to see the shower, since there's less light there than on campus, unless you walk very far down Hills Beach Rd (and I like Biddeford Pool more than Hills Beach Rd anyways so I was down for this location).
The location of where the shower would be (the radiant), was to the left of the Orion hourglass, an easily spotted constellation (it's essentially Orion, but less stars compose the hourglass figure).

Unfortunately all of our cameras were not thousand dollar cameras and couldn't take great pictures of the night time sky. And never mind taking pictures, there were barely any meteors to be seen either! It was pretty disappointing, but you can't be lucky every time. There are times where I go to the beach and see over 5-10 shooting stars in a short period, but I guess I am not so lucky when a meteor shower is planned haha.

My friends Julia and Allison star gazing. Then to the right we have my friends Rob and Matt Buotte (who was also doing the project) right before we set out on this crazy adventure.

Then we have here some other wonderful pictures down in Biddeford Pool at Fortunes Rocks. The tide was coming in pretty quickly when we got there so we couldn't go too far out onto the beach without getting wet. The fellow in the orange is my roomie and friend Matt (It seems Matt is a common name in these parts).

Overall I definitely had a great time, although not a lot of meteors were seen (I saw about 2), and the best part was when we got back to campus, Matt Buotte and I saw a skunk, and we chased after it trying to get a picture for our project. We almost snapped a good pic but then it started spraying and we narrowly escaped hahahaha. Another great night at UNE.
